WYOMING MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
James E. Carmody was sworn in as the Chief of Police for the City of Wyoming Michigan Department of Public Safety, in July of 2006 and was recently appointed the Director of Police and Fire Services. Prior to his appointment as Wyoming’s Public Safety Director, Carmody served 31 years with the Port Huron Michigan Police Department, where he retired as a Major (Deputy Chief) in 2006.
Chief Carmody has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Michigan; a Baccalaureate Degree in Criminal Justice (With Honors) from Wayne State University, and he is also a graduate of several professional leadership development programs including; the 169th session of the F.B.I.’s National Academy(FBINA), Quantico, Virginia, Northwestern University Traffic Institute’s School
of Police Staff and Command, the Michigan Law Enforcement Executive Leadership Institute (LEELI), and the Michigan Police Executive Development (MPED) program conducted by the FBI’s Law Enforcement Executive Development (LEEDS) program.
Chief Carmody holds certifications in Traffic Crash Investigations, Advanced Police Supervision, Drug Interdiction Operations, Police Ethics Training, and Racial Profiling Prevention Training. The Chief also instructs on a number of other topics related to police management and leadership principles.
